Nightwish is as close to perfection as any band can be. It has splendid female voices -- not like Tristania, where the female is second to the male, but where most songs -have- only female vocals to them. Oceanborn would be their best work -- and my favorite CD. But Angels Fall First is still wonderful. There isn't a song in it that I don't appreciate, even if they might take a few listens to enjoy. Tuomas -- the piano player, and the band member who comes up with the lyrics and music -- actually sings in some of the songs. In later albums, his voice is absent. In addition, the first Lapland song features Tarja (the vocalist) singing in Finnish -- absolutely beautiful, if not comprehensible to someone who doesn't speak the language. The "theme" of this CD seems to be the fantastic -- the titles alone of Elvenpath and Beauty and the Beast support that, as well as the contents of many other songs. It might not be the masterpiece that later albums are, but Angels Fall First is still better than most. If you take the time to appreciate it.
