Angels Fall First doesn't seem to be given nearly enough credit as Nightwish's other albums. Oceanborn and Wishmaster are usually considered better CDs. However, Angels Fall First is also a masterpiece -- and, in my opinion, better than Wishmaster. It has Tarja's beautiful alto, establishing Nightwish as the leading female-vocalist metal band. Tuomas, the keyboardist and the songwriter for the band, also has a singing part, although Tarja clearly dominates. The songs are generally quite good.ELVENPATH is probably one of the most popular Nightwish songs -- at least, it is one of the most downloaded. An upbeat, clearly fantasy song. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is not one of the most outstanding songs on the CD. It's a bit too long. However, this does not mean that it's a bad song. THE CARPENTER refers to Jesus -- another song where Tuomas has a singing role. ASTRAL ROMANCE is also very good, if not the best on the CD. There's a better version of it on the mini-CD Over the Hills and Far Away, however. ANGELS FALL FIRST seens to be the favorite of most reviewers. I don't know why. I never really liked the song much. TUTANKHAMEN is a fun, upbeat song, one I've sung along to several times. Very good. NYMPHOMANIAC FANTASIA is my personal favorite Angels Fall First song. Rather scary, but beautiful, and quite interesting. KNOW WHY THE NIGHTINGALE SINGS? It's alright, but not one of my favorites. LAPPI is made up of four different tracks -- all of them beautiful, but only one in English. This is a must-have CD for any Nightwish fan, and one of the best CDs in my collection. It's not as good as Oceanborn -- but still worthwhile. To put it mildly.
