Side note: I find it hillarious that about 100 people have recommended "...Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears instead of in addition to this. But anyway...I believe another review said the same thing I'll say now. Metallica is free to make any music they like, to appeal to any fan base they wish, and to follow the mainstream at their leisure. But since this is a review on whether I liked the album or not... It's very simple. I don't like it. I've always thought they've gotten worse and worse (starting with "The Black Album", any albums before that are of course gold). I don't like the riffs, I don't like the drums (Ulritch sounds like he's banging on oil drums), the solos have disappeared, the lyrics have no meaning to me, even the track titles sound mainstream. By the way, can anyone confirm if they can even still play "Kill 'Em All"? I couldn't really care less about their "selling out", they can do what they want, it's their band, and most people would probably do the same thing in their shoes. I couldn't care about their Napster issue either, it's long past, and has nothing to do with their music quality. I can't believe they're making a movie.... I guess I'm just not a fan of Nu-Metal, although I'd probably pick this album over something by Slipknot. It's pretty simple to know if you'll like this album though. If you thought that all of Metallica's albums from the 90s were great ("The Black Album", "Load", "Reload", "Garage Inc."), then chances are you'll cherish this album too. If you haven't liked the aforementioned albums, then don't think twice about passing this one by too. Since my favourite music comes from the 60s to the 80s, I'm passing it by. I give it two stars because hey, at least they we're smart enough to follow the mainstream audience. If it makes a difference what age group this review came from, I'm 16. Just old enough to have avoided the "Rap Era" and escaped to the past. :-)
