As I recall, this was the second release from Metallica, the American black/thrash metal band. This also happens to be their second best album, just a notch below Master of Puppets. It has some truly awesome tracks, actually all of the album is excellent. Though not their most ambitious album, it does have some high points and is more of a true metal record than anything by the pop metal bands polluting the metal scene today.

Fight Fire With Fire- My second favorite track on the album. Metallica produced this song very well, and it provides a great opening to the rest of the album, and especially to the next track, the gem of the album. The instrumentals and lyrics go very well together, and if you like Metallica, I'm sure this won't disappoint.

Ride the Lightning- Don't think that the title track of an album by Metallica won't kick arse- this is awesome. From the distinguishable intro to the choruses to the solo, this track is killer. If you like Metallica and haven't heard this song, shame on you. If you're just getting into them, check this song out.

For Whom the Bell Tolls- There's four different types of Metallica songs: the awesome tracks like Ride the Lightning, the semi-awesome such as Fight Fire With Fire, mediocre tracks, and anything off St. Anger. Well, this goes with Fight Fire With Fire. Not exactly a Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets, but pretty close and still something to listen to.

Fade to Black- Like quite a few tracks by Metallica, this one opens with a softer intro. However, it builds into a booming thrash/black metal song when you give it some time. Not exactly the most complex Metallica song by any means, but it provides a transition to Trapped Under Ice.

Trapped Under Ice- This one opens as a fast track right off the bat. This goes with Fight Fire With Fire and For Whom the Bell Tolls. It's the shortest on the album by a few seconds, but it was played hard enough by the guys that credit is due.

Escape- This song was mediocre in my mind. Soft chorus and rather simple riffs. But then, I listened to some music by other artists and some older Metallica, and I realized it was prety good. It might require time to grow on you.

Creeping Death- Another wonderful production. I like this song as much as I do For Whom the Bell Tolls. There's a good solo, cool chorus, good opening- everything I ask for when listening to thrash/black metal.

The Call of Ktulu- A instrumental track. I like Metallica instrumentals, they really show Metallica's potential.

If you don't like new Metallica, before bashing them, check this stuff out. They weren't on MTV, they had more ideas, they had Cliff Burton on bass- this is true old Metallica.
