Ride The Lightning (Average Rating: 9.50 out of 10)
Metallica's BEST album (Rated this album with 10 out of 10) Reviewed by

Ride The Lightning really defines the nature of heavy metal. With great messages as well, such as the apocalypse with Fight Fire With Fire and the song about drowning with Trapped Under Ice. Cliff really shocks us all with the bass. James' vocals take a turn for the better from Kill 'Em All. Kirk and Lars have their part as well.1)Fight Fire With Fire(4:45) - Don't let that guitar intro fool you, after a minute or so, it turns into a masterpiece, led by Kirk. The message is about the end of the world. Classic. 4/5 2)Ride The Lightning(6:38) - Now this is also a good song, but just not good enough to best Fight Fire With Fire. But it's still a riveting song. Talks about the electric chair. 4/5 3)For Whom The Bell Tolls(5:11) - The opening bells make sure it's a good song, but the chorus seals it. It's a classic, but still doesn't reach the best for me. 3/5 4)Fade To Black(6:55) - The first ballad, and a classic one. It's tied with Trapped Under Ice and Creeping Death for best song. No wonder why the good ones are always the ones written by all the guys in the band. Talks about suicide. The longest song with lyrics. 5/5 5)Trapped Under Ice(4:03) - Now THIS is the phenominal song. This song, that speaks about drowning and freezing to death, is the shortest and best song on this album. It has the metal feel. James' vocals soar, even past Fight Fire With Fire. 5/5 6)Escape(4:23) - I don't care much for this song, actually my least favourite. I, like much others, don't know exactly what this song's about. But still better than some you find on Master Of Puppets. 2.5/5 7)Creeping Death(6:35) - Now this the tied with Fade To Black and Trapped Under Ice for best song. This one is about the Pharaoh and Mosus and how the 7 plagues effetced the Pharaoh and how Creeping Death was the cause of the death of the first born male child of every family. It's a real crowd-pleaser when played live. This song was actually covered on Ozzfest 2002 by another good band, Drowning Pool. Their version doesn't beat this, but it comes close. Still, this song is great. 5/5 8)The Call Of Ktulu(8:54) - Instrumental, not bad. Although it would've been nice to swap this with Creeping Death. Anyway, this is a tradition to all Metallica albums, Kill 'Em All with Pulling Teeth(Cliff's bass solo), Master Of Puppets with Orion, even ...And Justice For All with To Live Is To Die(well, nearly an instrumental. Still, this one's the best, Yes, it beats Orion. Either way, Ktulu kicks ass. 4.5/5 Well, that's Ride The Lightning, overall better than Master Of Puppets. Well, pick this up now. And pick up MoP and AJFA as well.
