Ok everyone and their brother has heard this album 1000 times. One of the most argued about albums of all time. How do you review an album that strays so far away from the sound that made them thrash kings, but at the same time wins them many more fans and commercial success. Ill do my best to make this an honest review of an arena rock album. Trying to forget about thier glorius speed metal past. This is a band with a new mission, take over the commericial audience and that they did. Whats to say, its moderate, mid tempo, basic hard metal with a very catchy commericial edge. One of the best produced albums of all time. That any genre. the production is unbelievable. showcasing Hammets new approach to playing and Hetfields attempt to sing instead of rant. Its a hit and miss experience when all is said and done. Theres the slew of mtv hits, like enter sandman, whereever i may roam, sad but true, the unforgiven, nothing else matters. did i miss any lol. The only thing that really resembles anything threatening and stomping is the underated Of Wolf and Man which is actually when of the better songs of thier career. Im just more of a fan of their thrash albums like Master and Justice. But it cant be denied that they achieved what the planned with this album. Commericial domination. Megadeth shortly followed their lead with the rockish Countdown to Extinction album. And so goes the death of thrash . Thank God for slayer or should i say thank satan. Oh well, after this album metallica went too far with their money hungry commericial cravings and in doing so alienated their fans to the point of turning on them. Clench your copy of Master of Puppets tight and remember when this band stood for something.
