This metal masterpiece features some of Mettalica's most amazing, creative, and, rebellious music. The opening "Battery" commences with a sorrowful Spanish guitar intro, a prelude to the heavy riffing and power-hungry domination type lyrics (not to mention a couple of superb, wammy filled, lightning fast solos, courtesy of Kirk Hammet) that follow. This format in arrangement sets the vibe for the rest of the album. The lyrics, Hetfield explains, come from his numerous drug experiences in which he felt little or no control over his mind he was continually wasting. This, however, is brought about in many creative and intelligent forms, some of which contain slight evidence of being devised in relation to the main theme (Disposable Heroes and Lepar Messiah, anti war/anti fundi songs, in particular), which almost certainly is proof of some arrows flung at the establishment. Thats one of the reasons MOP is so powerful, for few other artists of the time could do this well. The only cut I'm not very praising of here is "The Thing That Should Not Be", a 6 minute piece with annoying and repetitive lyrics, a crappy tune Hetfield probably thought up in the shower, and a painfully mediocre riff. Still, the rest (which follow a description similar to that of "Battery") make up for it and more. They aren't too frugal with the track times though, but if you're a true metal fan that most likely won't matter.
