This certainly isn't in the classic stature of "Ride The Lightning" and "Master Of Puppets" but if you want to avoid a lemon after getting those two then get this rather than their last 3 (maybe four) albums and pick up this revolutionary debut album from the arguable Gods of metal.

During the time this was released, hair and pop metal were starting to dominate what once was the true metal scene. Bands were more concerned about getting women and whatnot instead of what was really important, the music. but Metallica came and saved us from the "Bon Jovi's" and the "Motley Crew's" and made this revolutionary debut.

At first when all i had was MOP I got this and when I heard Jame's first scream in "Hit The Light", I knew this was going to sound a bit different. The sound isn't as slick as MOP and RTL but it certainly packs the same heavy metal punch that turned Metallica into underground metal Gods and later that of mainstream metal (for better or for worse).

A minus is that theyr'e aren't any epic ballads like "Fade To Black", "One", and "Welcome Home (Sanatarium)". This was when Metallica were at their most youthful and rebellious. However like every god Metallica album there is an amazing instrumental, "(Anesia)", which features an amaziong bass solo by the late Cliff Burton(RIP) which set the bar for distortion and skill for bass players. Also there is the epic 8 minute-on---average thrash masterpeice which here is "Four Horsemen" which is definatly the best track on here with some excellent guitar work that makes it all the more excellent.

Other standout tracks are: Motorbreath, Jump in the Fire, Seek and Destroy, and Metal Millitia. Overall the music on here isn't nearly as good as their later stuff but a HUGE plus is the guitar work which is written by one of the founding members who you may have heard of that goes by the name of Dave Mustaine. I'm not sure if he played guitar in the recording, but he did write and it's much better than the stuff Kirk wrote (which is still pretty damn good.)

Get Ride The Lighning and Master of Puppets and then get their not as good but still great albums "Kill Em' All" and "Justice For All", which are extremely worthy purchases though not as good.........but not much really is.
