Many Metallica fans don't consider this a "real" album, and I can't say I blame them. Like any other fan, I'd rather have an album with new songs composed by Metallica. However, if you take this album for what it is (an all-cover album) and don't try to make it into something that it's not, you'll realize how great it is. I myself hadn't heard any of the orignal songs that Metallica covered on this disc, but having since heard a few of them I can say that Metallica's interpretations leave little to be desired. Also, the band has covered several of these songs live in concert, dating back to Metallica's beginnings. Releasing studio recordings is another way to pay tribute to the orignal artists, as well as familiarize those who don't attend concerts with Metallica's versions. If you're a Metallica fan, or plan to see them in concert, or just want to check out some re-invented old tunes, add this one to your list.
