Yes, these are cover songs, and yes, most of the songs are much shorter than a typical Metallica song, and yes there are a couple aweful songs (Helpless, Overkill), and yes almost anything sounds good after Reload, but I liked the majority of this album a lot. "Turn the Page" is just an amazing song and "Whiskey in the Jar" and "Astronomy" are quite impressive. I have come to accept that Metallica is heading in a different direction but it is not the grudge look of Reload. Yet, some elements of Metallica remain, especially the guitar solos that Metallica is famous for, and the songs are varied in length, pace, and general sound which makes the album most enjoyable to listen to, especially disc 1, which I'd give close to 5 stars. So give it a try, its not Metallica doing thrash but it really good hard rock.
