Into Glory Ride was propably the album that earned Manowar the reputation as swordswinging barbarians. The cover alone is hilarious. It was certainly over the top when it was released. But it is what is inside that matters, and there is nothing wrong there. Manowar had not reached their prime yet, and the songwriting is still somewhat uneven. The starting track Warlord is a bit weak in my opinion, but from there it all gets better. The rest of the album is a journey into early powermetal, the way it should be played, made by the pioneers in the field. It always takes guts to walk in front, and if there is something that Manowar has got it is that. This albums still ranks high for me as one of the great metal releases of the early 80's.
