Worth buying... especially for the newbie Power Metalheads

With the resurgence of "power" metal over in Europe with bands like Hammerfall, Blind Guardian, Iron Savior, Sacred Steel etc. I think it's necessary to give a nod to one of the bands that set the precedence for this genre, and Manowar's "Fighting the World" definitely did just that. So any of you NeW sKooL Metalheads who haven't heard this one... give it a go.

Manowar's image has always bothered me (and it is, indeed, laughable), but there's no denying that this is a great CD. Should you take it seriously? I don't, but I still love it. 12 years after its release, I still remember these songs fondly... and that's pretty good in my book.

Everything here is good/great with the exception of the insidiously lame "Blow Your Speakers". The fantasy lyrics may be goofy, but the lyrics here are just plain awful... as is the song itself. As I remember, this got alotta air time on MTV back in the day... which kinda proves my point, no?

Nonetheless, ignore the naysayers... while Manowar may be the Kings of Metal Cheese, "Fighting the World" is a classic power metal disc. Buy it, and thrill to the sounds of violence, bloodshed, drums of doom, black wind, fire and steel. What more could a barbarian ask for?

Carry on, my brothers! Death to false metal (and all that rot)!
