Fighting The World

(Average Rating: 7.70 out of 10)

A new era has begun

"Fighting the World" from 1987 was the start of the new Manowar-era with songs that combined power and melody with the screaming voice of Eric Adams.

On their previous albums such as "Into Glory Ride" and "Hail to England" the songs were dark and powerful with almost a satanistic theme. Now on "Fighting the World" the band has, if not become softer, changed style. The songs as "Blow your Speakers", "Violence and Bloodshed" and "Carry on" are softer and sounds like rock n roll that heavy metal.

The title track "Fighting the World" is a true metal-anthem but isn't as heavy and raw as the earlier songs.

But hold on fans of raw and screaming metal, there is something for you on this album! The songs "Holy War" and "Black Wind, Fire and Steel" are amazing! Both songs has an intro. "Drums of doom is an powerful song with galloping horses and mighty drums that fit to the old-style, powerful "Holy War". "Black Wind, Fire and Steel" sounds like something out of "Into Glory Ride" and real is dark and mystic.

Those two songs, including their "intros", thougether with "Defender" are the best on this album. "Defender" starts with a speach around two and a half minutes and very emotional with great guitar solos. Of all Manowar songs, Eric Adams does this one best.

This is a great album from the "new era" but not the best. Songs as "Violence and Bloodshed" and "Blow Your Speakers" are not good enough for five stars.

But I do hail Manowar for this album!
