Unleashed In The East

(Average Rating: 9.64 out of 10)

One Of The Best Live Albums Ever

(Rated this album with 10 out of 10)
Reviewed by Midnight Rambler from Highland Heights, KY

This album originally came out in September 1979, recorded during Judas Priest's tour for their fifth studio album, "Hellbent For Leather", which was called "Killing Machine" in Europe. This is an excellent remaster, featuring a great enhanced sound, and 4 bonus cuts previously only available through costly imports!!

The album kicks off with "Exciter" which is one of the first ever speed metal anthems, and sets the pace for the rest of this firey live album. "Running Wild" is even heavier live than on album, and the frentic solos by K.K. Downing in the middle of "Sinner" are timeless!! "The Ripper" is very moving live, as everytime I hear it, I can visually imagine the horrific events of Jack The Ripper and the 1888 slayings. "The Green Manalishi" is an awesome cover, one of the heaviest songs here, great riffs all over, it was originally done by Fleetwood Mac believe it or not, but way back in their early years when Peter Green was in the band, back when they were a hard driving blues-rock based band. Next is another cover, "Diamonds And Rust", originally done by folk artist Joan Baez, becomes very heavy here, and is still a live highlight nto this day. "Victim Of Changes" is one of the best metal songs ever, and I prefer this live version to the studio version that appears on "Sad Wings Of Destiny". The raw energy just oozes out and the middle part is mellow and very emotional. "Genocide" is another song that is better live, and it features more kiiller riffs in one song then some bands write in their entire career!! "Tyrant" is another all time classic heavy metal anthem and was used by the band for many tours as a show closer, and that is where the original album eneded. Now with this remaster, we get awesome live versions of "Rock Forever", "Delivering The Goods", "Hellbent For Leather" and "Starbreaker". If there was one complaint people had about this album, it was that it was too short at only nine songs, but with the 13 songs it now runs at over an hour!! And its nice to have more songs from the "Hellbent.." album, as it was recorded on this tour, previously it only had two, but now we have five from that album. It would have been nice to also have live versions of "Dissident Aggressor", "Saint In Hell" and "Beyond The Realms Of Death" to truly have the best from their first five studio albums, but thats being picky, as their isn't 1 bad track to be found here. To truly find out what a good heavy metal live show is about, buy this album!!!
