The band's early phase was characterized by five very different records with five different producers. This is the third installment, circa 1977, and was produced by Deep Purple bassist, Roger Glover. As such, the guitar sound does not cut as deep as it would on the later records. Priest fans will recognize live staples like "The Sinner" (featuring the characteristiclly Hendix-esque guitar solo of KK Downing) and the Joan Baez cover "Diamonds and Rust". However, there are a few other gems hidden in here as well, such as the truly genre-bending ballad "Last Rose of Summer" and the light/dark contrast of "Here Come the Tears" and "Dissident Aggressor".As with the other reissues, there are two bonus tracks. "Jawbreaker" has no contextual place on this record, as it is a live verison of much-later song recorded in Long Beach Arena in 1984. (FYI: For other tunes from this show, "Grinder" is on the 'British Steel' remaster, "Night Comes Down" is on the 'Ram It Down' remaster, "Rock Hard Ride Free" is on the 'Priest Live' remaster, and "Heavy Duty" is on the 'Defenders of the Faith' remaster.) The studio tune, "Race With the Devil", is a cover jam from the 'Stained Class' (1978) studio sessions and is not bad.
