1976 was a benchmark year for the form of music known later as "Heavy Metal". Black Sabbath had had their peak, Steve Harris was working on what would later become Iron Maiden, and the form of music was undergoing an evolution into what it became later. Sad Wings of Destiny is definitely deserving of the acclaim it receives, because it has many elements adapted by bands that even exist today. Fast songs like "Tyrant" paved the way for speed and thrash metal, "The Ripper" would foreshadow horror subjects in metal (besides also being an A--kicking song), "Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver" is early epic metal at its finest, and "Victim of Changes" can tear paint off the walls with Rob Halford's powerful vocals. Classic metal EVERYONE should own!
