metal's first classic

Time has treated Sad Wing of Destiny, Judas Priest's second LP, very kindly. Despite heavy metal's evolution as an art form, Priest's magnum opus still remains to this day every bit as potent as it was 20 years ago.

On Rocka Rolla, Glenn Tipton and KK Downing began to develop one of music's tightest dual guitar units. On Sad Wings, this tandem is fully realized, rattling off myriad piercing riffs, twin guitar lines, and rapid fire solos. Also, Rob Halford clocks in (arguably) his best performance, or at least his most falsetto laden, letting off piercing wails like clockwork.

Balls out classics like Victim of Changes, the Ripper, and Tyrant have become metal standards, and Dreamer Deceiver sports some of the most moving guitar work put to record. Without this album, the development of heavy music would of been greatly hindered (as noted by many prominent musicians). My only gripe is the sub par production, but this can be easily overlooked. Sad Wings of Destiny = Masterpiece.
