This record came out in 1976 before JP dicovered their leather and studs look which every metal band after them adopted. The songs on this album also were written at a time when progressive bands like Led Zep and deep Purple ruled the hard rock world. The songs on here are very different then the songs normally associated with Priest. But consider this: Four of the nine songs from this album made it onto Unleashed In the East, their classic live album released a few years after Sad Wings. There is not a bum track on this album. Among the standouts on a CD full of standouts, Tyrant, my all time favorite JP track, Dreamer Deceiver/ Deceiver which feature the highest notes ever hit by a man, Island of Domination, Genocide, the Ripper. Listen to the lyrics of Epitaph for the surprise ending. This was actually the first JP album I ever heard twenty some odd years ago and it still holds up today. The production is good, and the bass player played the best bass lines he would ever be given. On subsequent JP CD's, Ian Hill just rides his E string. I love Priest, and I love Sad Wings of Destiny. Buy or die.
