Painkiller

(Average Rating: 8.64 out of 10)

Last Truly Good Judas Priest CD

Painkiller sees Judas Priest shedding any remaining baggage from the Turbo era. As a metal record, Painkiller holds it own in every respect. Scott Travis debuts on drums here and is the perfect fit for the new faster and harder variety of metal that will survive over the long-term.

The title track is one of the best Priest songs ever. Soaring vocals, double bass drumming, shredding guitars. What more could you ask for? The remaining tracks are all good, solid material. I don't consider Painkiller one of the classics of heavy metal like some earlier Priest records but it definitely put them back in the game.

Maybe we can get the next classic Priest record in 2004 now that Halford is back in the fold. Keep your fingers crossed.
