Judas Priest's Reviews

Jugulator

(Average Rating: 6.88 out of 10)

One of the best metal albums of the 90's. Kicks ass!

I'm an old Judas Priest fan and I'll admit I was unsure about buying this album a few weeks ago. CMC has put out some real garbage lately, mostly from older acts like Iron Maiden, who seem to have lost their direction. I had to listen to this disk a couple of times but I will say this, Judas Priest has managed to reinvent itself. Overall, Jugulator kills from beginning to end. My personal favorites are the title track and Deathrow. What struck me most about this album was how little of it sounds like the old Judas Priest. That doesn't matter though. This new direction they've taken just proves that they have kept up with the times and don't sound stale. Ripper Owens vocals are in a word awesome and make this a helluva ride. There are a few, but not many, weak spots. Decapitate is the least strongest track sounding more like a garage band song. Overall, this album gets a bit too dark and sometimes relies on metal cliches (ie, Burn in Hell). The nay-sayers have it wrong. Judas Priest has returned with a vengeance. Bands like Metallica take note. Your elders and betters are showing you up in a big way.
