The new lineup is much stronger, but they've yet to rock.

Upon seeing this album, the first thing you will notice is the theme on the album. Unusually dark and evil names for the songs (not that Priest was ever happy metal). The songs are indeed closer to thrash metal or death metal, depending on which song. It is somewhat like Painkiller. The music sounds a lot like Slayer. Being a traditional Priest fan, I found this slightly disturbing. Still, being fair, the new lineup is probably the best they've had. For one Scott Travis is a far superior drummer to Holland, who could be replaced with a drum machine if the need arose. Secondly, the new singer, Tim Ripper Owens could potentially be better, yes better, than Rob Halford. His low angry voice is much more powerful than Rob's, however he still has to work on the scream. From what I have heard, Priest's next album will be closer to their original style. Judging by the CD, '98 Live Meltdown, it should be something to look forward to. As for this CD, if you like Death Metal, by all means, get it. If you like classic Judas Priest, be warned.
