This is an album where people either love it or hate it. It has enough highlights to make up for some of its more mundane moments. This is a pretty heavy album. Priest wisely chose to update their sound. I've complained that albums like British Steel have an 80s cheesiness to them, so updating was good. It doesn't "90s" either. It just sounds like modern heavy metal. Who in 1998 was playing music with this sound, the straight forward classic metal? No one. Maybe AC/DC. Ripper is a quality singer and I don't see why he gets so much flak. New Judas Priest simply is love it or hate it. While I don't "lov" it, I admit it's good.
