First my Priest credentials: I am 32 and got into Priest back in the Screaming for Vengeance era. At one point I had their entire catalog up to Defenders of the Faith on cassette. Turbo was a disappointment and I didn't buy anything else until the Painkiller CD. The music on Demolition is pretty good. I am glad to see Priest go in a heavier direction while Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, etc. are softening up the music and intensifying what they perceive as a more artistic image. Still, while the music is good, it is not great or up to the level of which Priest is capable.

What really sabotages this record, though, is the utterly silly lyrics. I made the mistake of listening to the record while reading along with the lyric sheet. Don't do this! The vocals do not seem as bad when you are not 100% sure of what is being said. Bad things happen when fifty year old men write lyrics that try to appeal to the current MTV generation (which has little, if anything, to do with music these days). Glenn Tipton is a great guitar player but he should not be in charge of lyrics or anything related to vocals. I am also skeptical of his skills as a producer.

Like some of the other reviewers, I think this is more of a Glenn Tipton project masquerading as Priest. Perhaps it would be wise to retire the name Judas Priest for new material and bring in Rob once every couple of years to tour as Priest playing the classic material. No offense to Ripper Owens, but he is young and talented enough to lead his own project, where he would have more control over his own role as vocalist.

Should you buy Demolition? Flip a coin. It's not nearly as bad as some of the reviews here suggest. But you are certainly not missing out on anything spectacular.
