No other way to say it...THIS STINKS!

I didn't think it could get any worse than "Jugulator," but it has with this ... disc. Rob Halford clearly was seminal with the song-writing on the top-notch older stuff (i.e. "Defenders of the Faith," "Hell Bent for Leather," "Screaming for Vengeance"), because now that he's gone, Priest is left with Glenn Tipton's inane lyrics and Ripper Owens' ill-fated attempts at emulating Halford. Deductive reasoning, you see. With Halford, Priest was great. Without him, they're God-awful.

Also, where are the classic Tipton and K.K. Downing solos? They've gone the way of the do-do bird, replaced with monotonous riffing. Ripper Owens can certainly hit those high notes, but is little more than Halford clone. And what's with the cursing? This isn't the Priest of yore. This is something else, proving once again that different doesn't always mean better.

Avoid all JP albums after "Painkiller," which was also heavy, but still great. Why? Halford, of course. Also, it had tons of searing solos and great compositions. Really, I could care less if Rob Halford is homosexual. It's too bad TIpton, Downing, and the others did. Halford is a metal legend, an incomparable frontman with an exorcistic voice, and a credit to the music industry.

Nevertheless, Halford has had the last laugh. His solo career post-Priest has produced two masterpieces, "Resurrection" and "Crucible." Priest, on the other hand, is washed up. In fact, they're relegated to playing at second-rate venues and desolate festivals. That usually happens when the genuine talent leaves.
