I found this on cassette in a service station for $... and am listening to it as I write. I have "Jugulator" and thought it a welcome return to heaviness for Priest after the late '80s weak offerings of "Turbo" ("Disco"?) and "Ram It Down", and a natural progression from the return-to-form "Painkiller".This album is indeed different and is what "Turbo" SHOULD have been. There are guitar synthesisers, some experimental beats (notably "Metal Messiah") but overall it is not bad at all. Some have complained about "ballads". They're not ballads; they're more like dirges, and, remember, Priest have always done stuff like this ("Epitaph", "Before The Dawn", "Beyond The Realms Of Death"). Ripper is not Rob Halford. He doesn't have to be. He's his own man with his own voice and he does just fine throughout this effort. Downing and Tipton still have their heavy "Painkiller"/"Jugulator" sound and that's excellent, the best two-guitar team in metal. The big bonus here is you can actually HEAR Ian Hill for the good bassist he's always been! Now that Halford is back, I wish Ripper well and I hope he doesn't disappear. As for the reconstituted Priest, continue the heaviness and PLEASE don't go back to "Johnny B Goode" or "Private Property!"
