First off, this album deserves 5 stars. It is truly one of the best metal albums of all time. The reason I gave it a 3 star rating is because of the sub-standard remastering job, which is proof that Sony just wanted to cash in on JP one last time before they disappeared. 'The Sentinal' and 'Freewheel Burning' are the worst, as far as sound quality goes. 'Sentinel' sounds like the tape head was dirty during playback, 'Freewheel' sounds like master tape got wrinkled at the beginning of the song. Overall, the whole CD sounds like it was mastered from a cassette tape that had been sitting under a car seat for a few years. I pulled out my 15+ year old vinyl copy of the album and it sounded better than this so called "remaster". Just as a side note, I also have the remastered "Screaming for Vengeance" and it sounds far better than this one. I'm curious to find out what other people think of the rest of the remasters. I probably would have them all by now if I wasn't so disappointed in 'Defenders'.
