...Now we'd like to take you to the... BRITISH STEEL ALBUM!!

The year was 1980, and Priest had just released the absolutely awesome live album Unleashed in the East a year earlier. Following up successfully to a record that so perfectly captured the energy of their live performances would be hard to follow.

But Priest did it!

British Steel rocks from start to finish. Look up, down, sideways, diagonally, behind you, whatever and wherever, but you won't find a single poor track on this CD*. Yes, it's THAT good. It opens with a roar with the the proto-speed metal anthem "Rapid Fire" and segues perfectly into "Metal Gods", which although not one of my favorites, is still a good song. From there, the albums takes you to one of Priest's most well known songs, the all time metal clasic "Breaking the Law." Next, we head to my favorite song: "Grinder"! The stadium anthem "United" follows... I don't think I need to comment on everything else: it ALL rocks. Well... alright, I'll mention one more: "Red, White, & Blue" simply rocks! This is definitely one of those stadium rockers that you can wave your lighters to, and it even has fake audience applause at the end! Awesome song!

Now, the sound quality. This is a remaster, right? Thus, it should have better sound, right? Right. And I'm happy to say that for once, I can at long last listen to a CD that bears Astley's name for remastering. You see, I normally despise Astley's work due to his propensity to use noise reduction, which may reduce the noise, but also reduces the higher frequencies, ultimately causing the mix to sound flat, and if not flat, it leaves strange sounds in the background. So, Astley remastered this, too. But, I swear to God (and I'm atheist) that he didn't use noise reduction this time... this remaster sounds SUPERB, compared to Screaming For Vengeance, for instance.

You can't go wrong with British Steel. You can't. You just can't. It'll be well worth the ten clams or so to own this metal masterpiece.

5 stars for the music + 5 stars for the sound quality = 5 star average!
