Iron Maiden's Reviews

Somewhere In Time

(Average Rating: 8.94 out of 10)

Maiden's biggest progression at its time of release.

Piece Of Mind and Powerslave showed us the newer version of Iron Maiden could take any subject and make it an epic. But, what if, in addition to this talent, the band got softer and began using synthesizers? Believe it or not, this only would improve the band. Every song uses both of these new developments. My only complaints are that it is only eight songs long, and it never got the credit it deserved. Now I will break the album down track by track. Note that this album's tracks (as well as Seventh Son's tracks) are extremely difficult to explain, so I'll do the best I can.

-Caught Somewhere In Time: Excellent gloomy melodic rocker. A+

-Wasted Years: Very well done softer and lighter track. A+

-Sea Of Madness: Probably the hardest song on the album. Not bad but the album's got better stuff. A-

-Heaven Can Wait: Awesome lighter melodic rocker with a memorable chorus. A

-The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner: Decent melodic hard rocker, but one of the weaker tracks on the album. Still, it's far from bad. A-

-Stranger In A Strange Land: WOW! This is probably the softest track here, but it also manages to be the best one! A+

-Deja Vu: Excellent fast, dark, and melodic piece of work. A

-Alexander The Great: Basically an improved version of Rime Of The Ancient Mariner. If it's better than that one it's gotta be good! A+

With no song graded below A-, you shoud see how good of an album this is. By all means purchase this album if you like Maiden or progressive melodic metal. UP THE IRONS!
