Their most solid effort, despite the synth (Rated this album with 10 out of 10) Reviewed by

After Somewhere in Time, I wondered where Maiden was headed. I wasn't sure what to make of the synth-sell-out sound, but everybody was doing it at the time (check out Judas Priest's "Turbo") so I was willing to follow the boys on their wild hare. When 7th Son was released I was more than pleasantly surprised. As a Maiden purist, i was skeptical at first, but as you listen, you realize that this is their most solid album. Steve Harris' lyrics are never going to be Shakespeare, but his galloping bass guitar is the best in rock and roll (sorry to John Entwhistle and Flea). Bruce's pipes are wide open, Adrian and Dave's guitar work is vintage and Nikko is smacking the skins better than ever. The concept album is a genre that is almost dead. We probably won't see to many more of them, so grab this one and revel in it's greatness. While there are certainly many great metal bands, Iron Maiden is the measuring stick that they are all placed up against and this is a solid snapshot of what they are capable of.
