Iron maiden are a band that once seen are never forgotten. This recording is one such event. After two previously poor live albums in "A real live dead one" and "Live at donnington 1992" this one was far superior.Matching the 1985 recording "Live after death" for quality this album shows what the band can do when they get behind their performances. Many of the songs on offer here rock far harder than they did when they were onthe albums. The fast songs really do benefit performed live, "The trooper" excels the Piece of mind version by being faster and harder, "The evil that men do" was originally quite a moderately paced song but here the band crank up the volume and pump the song out with pure adrenaline. Not only this there are numerous long songs that sound incredible on this, "sign of the cross" from the average album "The X factor" is turned into a long flashy epic that truly benefits from the powerful vocals of Bruce Dickinson, "fear of the dark" has always sounded great but here Bruce puts on an air of evil, jus check the evil laugh near the start for proof, and this conveys a dark atmosphere, the biggest surprise though is the band's performance of the song "The Clansman" from the awful album "Virtual XI" which is somehow turned into a classic tune with great audience participation and you find yourself at home swishing yor hair and screaming along too! What is great about this album is that the band cover almost all of their albums and this feels like both a great live album come Greatest hits. The only problem I have with this is that the album "Somewhere in time" was ignored. While "The clansman" is good song that is performed well I feel that it would have been special if the band could have performed either "Caught somewhere in time" or maybe a true treat in their classic song "Alexander the Great". However never mind that is a minor gripe and the album is a great listen, the performances live on stage are always awesome and I do recommend that you check out the DVD of this, it is a shame that the band have not decided to release this on VHS as I feel that the market of VHS is still far larger than that of DVD. Still everyone who is into Maiden must definitey own this cd,UP THE IRONS!!!
