Iron Maiden's Reviews

Rock In Rio

(Average Rating: 8.78 out of 10)

Maiden has totally lost it!

Iron Maiden is not a great sounding live band. This recording unfortunatly picks up all of the flaws. The songs from Brave new world sound nearly the same as in the studio. The only difference are the sloppy guitar solos and tired singing.
My main complaint is the guitar playing. Adrian, Dave and Gers have left all thrill for metal in their past! This is not a live album that guitarists can pick up useful tips, or inspiration. 80% of the solos are so sloppy that they make Chris Holmes of Wasp seem superior. All the guitar tones are very bassy; giving it a muddy sound; instead of crisp head banging crunch.
Bruce really shows his lack of vocal knowledge and technique. He sounds like a sea pirate with throat cancer. What happened to the melody and clarity!? His singing is forced, out of breath and more raspy than usual. Bruce really needs to retire; before he develops cancerous throat nodules. It is also obvious that a lot of the intros and choruses were re-sung in the studio.
Steve Harris sounds good as usual. He is less audible in the mix than usual live maiden recordings.
I am disappointed with this disc. I thought that with today's awesome technology; the sound would be so wicked sweet. Anyways, I would not spend more than $10 on it! Actually I wouldn't even pick it up; unless Iron Maiden is your entire life.
