This live album is similar to "Brave New World." Specifically, both are far superior to anything produced in the 90s, but that is not saying much. Both albums suffer from too many tedious, over repetitious songs, and "Rock in Rio" tends to get a bit slow in the middle for my taste. Iron Maiden also continues to use a very poor guitarist, despite the return of Adrian Smith. The bottom line is that "Rock in Rio" is a great example of how Iron Maiden sounds today, and most of the band is in great form. There are a few other problems with "Rock in Rio." The rhythm guitars are too muddy with no high end crunch. Oversaturation issues with the recording mics, particularly from the right side, result in some bad distortion. While the album is very raw, some people might be put off by the usage of "cut and pastes" (aka overdubs) on many of the choruses. Overall, it is a solid live album that should have been better.
