Well, it seems to me that Maiden is treating his fans like the more commercial artists always did....releasing compilation after compilation for the hardcore fans to buy, and always stating that "this is our best work to date".... This live CD has an almost unbeliavably bad choice of songs, considering it's a two-CD set!! Tunes "Iron Maiden", "SAnctuary", "THe Number of hte Beast", "Run to The Hills", "The Trooper", etc, are included once again. They're all great songs and are exactly what they played that night, but what's the reason to buy an album like this if you're already a Maiden fan? Certainly Maiden reasoned that a lot of people that were there that night in January, 2001, would like to buy the album... But ROCK IN RIO borns dead. Like their previous live albums, REAL LIVE ONE, REAL DEAD ONE and DONINGTON, Maiden live sounds so weak, the songs lose so much when comparing them to their studio versions, that ones ends up in diusgust. Most of the blame for this recurrent factor is the production by Steve Harris and the atrocious playing by Janick Gers. ROCK IN RIO is produced and mixed by Kevin SHirley, but it has Steve Harris's name as "co-producer".... All in all, this album is aimed just to earn some fast money and create some hype for their second studio album after the reunion, to be released in 2003. Clever guys, they are...
