***I needed to edit this review, as I was wrong about my earlier statings about Dickinson`s vocals. They are top notch.***Nothing better than showing off a band in action, than releasing a double-cd with a live concert to a hungry fan. I was pretty much in awe over this album, and bought it as soon as I found it. But why 4 stars from a Maidenlover? On to the record! The band is really great. They play a bit more rough than on their studioalbums, aiming for a more living, tough music. This is not a negative thing! It can be a bit to blurry though. I think the quality of the sound is the negative thing here, to say this is good quality is not quite right. But what can you do with Rio concerts, being one of the biggest in the world? Still good job. The band does a god job, they are obviously not trying to relax and play so-so. They play fast, they play furious, they play great. Nicko should always be hailed, being the master of the drums even when the tempo speeds up. Harris is master of the bass, nothing else comes close. Then we got the guitarists, they do a amazing job ripping thru the riffs and songs like we know them to. Bruce..I have enjoyed his singing thru the years, he is one of the best vocalists in the world of Heavy Metal. We can hear him try and he does what he can, but the overwelding sound can make him sound more skinny and low. I am sure this is just something on this record, For it must be hard to sing louder than 3 roaring guitars including one of the worlds best bassists and a awesome drummer. The song selection, is very good, but why on Rio did they drop songs from Somewhere in Time? Wasted years would have been perfect here! Otherwise, they do a really neat job playing their new songs to great success for the audience. Most other bands keep it safe and plays the good old ones, but Maiden shows us that in time, Brave New World will be a new classic, and that they are proud of Brave New World. They should be proud over Rock in Rio too, for it really is a great live-album, with some minor flaws with blurry sound(too hard to avoid at this size) and a bit weak Bruce. It is really a 5`er, but those two things is the only thing that prevents it. The concert and their performance it self is a pure 5`er...and even a 6`er.
