Iron Maiden's Reviews

Rock In Rio

Iron Maiden are the best live band ever!

This album only confirmed what Maiden fans already knew: Iron Maiden is THE BEST LIVE BAND EVER! This double album and the upcoming DVD should teach these nu metal bands a thing or two.

I've been listening to this album for many times, and each time it grows on me. It is far superior to their 1993 live offerings A Real Live One, A Real Dead One and Live at Donington, which were plagued by the sound quality (resembling a bootleg) and Bruce's voice (who was very close to leaving Maiden at that time, 1992, so wasn't really into it anymore). Only time will tell though if this album is better than Live after Death (1985) or not... in any case, both these live albums are masterpieces. So... this album sounds great. Except the excellent band's performance, the first thing you'll notice is the crowd, who sing along even during the instrumental parts (wonder how 250,000 fans sound like?)

Now moving on to the setlist... some people may complain because too much of Brave New World is covered (6 songs). My biggest complaint is that there are no songs from the Somewhere in Time album, which is one of my favorite albums. The live tracks unavailable before are the 6 BNW ones and 2 Blaze era tracks (Sign of the Cross sounds awesome).

Also included on the CD are two enhanced videos... Brave New World (live from the upcoming DVD) and A Day In The Life, a 10 min film about Iron Maiden. The only thing that [stinks] about these videos is the QuickTime format... I don't know how these videos were encoded, but they are pretty unstable on mostly any computer (actually they're fine if you view them with the program included on the CD, but not with QuickTime Player, which has a lot of other features).

In any case, this is a great purchase... and definitely not just for the hard-core Maiden fan. UP THE IRONS!
