This is without a doubt Iron Maiden's best album and one of the best metal albums ever recorded. It is an amazing album. The best part about it is that it still sounds fresh and new even though it's 16 years old. It also blows away any new "metal" bands if you can even call them that. Iron Maiden is also one of the most talented bands ever. Bruce Dickinson has one of the greatest voices in metal while the guitar team of Adrian Smith and Dave Murray gave Maiden their signature sound by making use of their ability to play off each other, and the sheer talent of bassist Steve Harris and drummer Nicko McBrain makes it easy to understand why Maiden became one of the biggest band ever without any radio airplay. Enough about the band here's my review of Powerslave.

The album opens with the powerful Aces High. Adrian and Dave's guitar harmonies work perfectly on the song and Bruce's voice is the most powerful it's ever been. It then goes into 2 Minutes to Midnight, it's in the style of Aces because it's a powerful progressive metal song. The instrumental Losfer Words is next. Usually instrumentals are skipped over on an album but this song is amazing. It's very powerful. Flash of the Balde has a really cool intro. The song like the whole album is heavy with a progressive edge. The Duellists and Back in the Village are also amazing songs. The title track, Powerslave is one of my favorite songs on the album because it's really an amazing song. The next and last song on the album is the epic Rime of the Ancient Mariner. The song is written from a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. This is my favorite song on the whole album. In my opinion it features the band playing better than they had on any other song on the album, and that's a hard thing to do. Musicians will appreciate this album weather you are a guitarist, bassist, drummer, or even a songwriter. My one hope for the future of metal is that Maiden will become huge and wipe out all the cheesy metal bands. I personally think that for any rap metal band or any alterna metal band to call themselves "metal" bands is an insult to the musicians who started the music. Did you ever hear Ozzy rap or did any of the great guitar players sit there and make high pitched noises...no. I have to admit that I do like Kid Rock but I hate Korn, Drowning Pool, Mudvayne and Slipknot. Those bands are an insult to metal. We need more metal bands that are willing to rock. Maiden released Brave New World which is a great album, no all that we need is a new Anthrax album, and the new Megadeth it's called Capital Punishment. That album should rock and if it does I will forgive them for the dissapointing Risk. Ok now that I got that off my chest let's get back to Maiden. I definately think that any metal fan, musician, or music fan should own this album. I also suggest Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Piece of Mind, Somewhere in Time, The Number of the Beast, and Brave New World. If you like Powerslave you will love those albums and if you like Powerslave I also recomend you getting Live After Death because it's from the Powerslave tour.
