powerslave is a great album and of course should purhcased by anyone who favours heavy metal a la maiden. however it seems that the album is missing something, a key element to the songs isnt there. in this review i will attempt to tell you what and where i believe important elements are missing. 1) aces high- great pounding opening track great rythm, lead and rythm guitars and of course bruce is singing well 2) 2 minutes to midnite-same as aces high a classic 3) lofser words- creative if not repetitive instrumental worth listening to 4) flash of the blade- fantastic opening, verse and chorus riffs youll be singing along to this one. However, there is no guitar solo, just a nice little melodic bit. my complaint with this is the rythm guitar and drum during this bit(Nicko sounds like hes banging on pots and pans and whoever is doing ryhtm guitar decided to make it really dull) 5) the duellists- this song doesnt sound at all like iron maiden teh main verse, while being nice and melodic, just doesnt have a maiden feel to it. the solo in this song is overly long and makes you want to put your head in your hands. The lead bit is ok( nothing special) but it would have been much enhanced had there been a good, tight rythm section( which it doesnt) 6) back in the village- worth skipping 7) powerslave- magnificent song, its better live though because it doesnt have that stupid background chanting during the chorus 8) rime of the ancient mariner- great song, the part in the middle gets a bit boring, but the part after that rocks boys and girls, there arent many moments in rock history that are more powerful than right after bruce sings "down comes the rain!"

so laddies to sum it up this album is definetely worth buying. However, in my opinion,it doesnt have the bone chilling, headbanging maiden feel that makes them so great. For the most part the rythm section is almost catatonic(except in songs like 2 mins, aces, powerslave, and mariner) some of the songs lack the energy and speed of other songs from other albums(number of the beast, piece of mind, iron maiden, killers, somewhere in time, 7th son of a 7th son, no prayer for the dying, brave new world)

Up the Irons!
