I get the feeling I'm the odd one out here......

I've been a Maiden fan for about 2 years now, but lack of money prevented me from buying most of their albums (y'know how it is!). Now that I have a job, I've been investing in large amounts of good music, and that includes this. Just in case you were wondering why it took me so long to but this album.

So I eagarly brought home this CD and my opinion was, well, mixed. It was alright, I guess, but I'd already heard most other Maiden stuff (both the Di'Anno albums and most of the Dickinson stuff) and I have to say that compared to Powerslave or 7th Son of a 7th Son, this fell flat on its arse. It didn't grab me and immerse me like other Maiden albums.

Now I've given it another chance, and I recognise how good it is. Songs like Where Eagles Dare and The Trooper are real standouts. This is a solid album. But I still don't think it is their best, or even one of their best, never mind a classic. In order to be a good Maiden album, it has to be pretty damn good, and unfortunatly, songs like Aces High (Powerslave), Moonchild (7th Son Of A 7th Son), Chaught Somewhere In Time (Somewhere In Time) or Number Of The Beast are all excellent songs by Maiden that I'd rather listen to and are from, in my opinion, much better albums. This album was overhyped in my opinion.

I wouldn't recommend this to a casual fan and definately not a newcomer to Iron Maiden. I think this album should be heard first before you decide to buy it. A good Iron Maiden album? Yes A classic metal album? I don't think so. Check out Live After Death.
