Iron Maiden's Reviews

Piece Of Mind

The Most Important, Not The Best

I bought The Number Of The Beast album. I loved it. Then, I read that this one was a classic too, better produced. A lot of fans said that this one was the best Maiden’s album. I bought it recently. And I was, somehow, disappointed.

I’m not saying that the album is bad. It’s sure amazing. But I expected more. A lot more. I was waiting another 22 Acacia Avenue, another Hallowed Be Thy Name. I didn’t find it here. But it’s ok, the album is wonderful. The guys are playing even better than in NOTB. Bruce (as always) makes the show. Steve’s bass is cleaner, he tries some different notes here. Adrian is even better. Dave is there, very well too. The best new is Nicko, even if it is not his best album. His technique is really impressive. Steve could do what he always wanted in the musics. The band was in top form, very creative.

Well, let’s go to the musics. Where Eagles Dare is a great album opener. It has some fantastic drums and guitars. Bruce’s voice is fantastic here, with a great range and good falsettos. He shows why he is called "Air Raid Siren". 95/100

Revelations is one of the best. Very soft some times, very heavy other times. I feel like flying listening this music. Bruce is very emotional here. Dave is perfect and the solos are amazing. Harris is here, one of his best musics. Nicko just sustaining the music. Great lyrics From Bruce are here too. 100/100

Flight Of Icarus is amazing too. A not-so-heavy music. Great drums and vocals (one of the best) are present. The solo is kinda simple, just appropriated. 100/100

Die With Your Boots On is good. The chorus is long, I didn’t like it. I didn’t understand if Bruce was being cynic in some parts, but sounds some strange. You’ll find a good bass line and good guitars. The music is better in the end. 85/100

The Trooper is the greatest hit of this album. But I don’t like it SO much. Is really good but some chessy. The guitars are pretty much the same the previous track. Bruce is really mad here… 90/100

Still life is the most emotional track. Well, with the most emotional vocal. The guitars here are superb. It just loses to Revelations in this album, I think. 100/100

The other two are boring and repetitive. 60/100 for both. To Tame A Land is kinda interesting, but didn’t catch me. 65/100.

Well, you want to decide: buy or not? Buy, if you liked Powerslave and NOTB. Don’t start with this one. Is very good, but I don’t think it is the best Maiden’s album. For Maiden’s fans, buy. You’ll like it. An important thing to say is that this album is an evolution in Maiden’s history. In this one, Steve left space for the other guys. Bruce is here with two lyrics, Adrian wrote too and other things as musicianship were changed. They became to make literature-based music. The harmony of the two guitars became to be strong here. These are the marks of Iron Maiden. The Number Of The Beast showed them to the world and Powerslave made them conquerthe world. But the most important album was this one. So, if you wanna know the band, know why it is as it is, don't waste more time. Buy this one.
