Iron Maiden's Reviews

Killers

(Average Rating: 9.06 out of 10)

Good clean fun.

"Killers" is the only album that has Iron Maiden panting out the much spoken of mixture of punk's energy and the skillfulness of hard-rock musicians - by many refered to as the main bricks in the The New Wave of British Heavy Metal-theorem. Some people consider this album to have been recorded in haste, thus leaving the audience with 10 sketches of unfulfilled Maiden classics.

To me the spontaneity of "Killers" is a refreshing oasis amidst the powerful, but oh-so thoroughly arranged and at times pompeous line of recordings made by the band between 1980 and -84. No songs over 7 minutes - actually some are under three. It is the document that shows guitar-duo Smith and Murray finally joining forces in the right band, introducing the most ingenious lineup of guitarists in music history. The album also introduces producer Martin Birch who fully enabled Maiden to prove their strenght in studio-recordings as well as their force as a live-band.

Much has already been said about the strong songs on this album, but I'll just have to mention that this is the only Maiden album I still listen to reguraerly, and when I do it usually spins right through the tracklist from start to finish, the howling of Di'Anno on "Drifter" leaving me off laughing in pure good clean fun-extacy.
