Iron Maiden's Reviews

Iron Maiden (Average Rating: 9.20 out of 10)
The first Iron Maiden album, very metal but not a classic! (Rated this album with 8 out of 10) Reviewed by

This was the album that began Iron Maidens ascent to metal superstardom. This album has some great songs on like 'The phantom of the opera', 'Running free' and 'Iron Maiden'. However, before Bruce joined Maiden (no disrespect to Paul Dianno, he did a great job), iron maiden were A great heavy metal band, rather than THE great heavy metal band. Had Maiden carried on like this they would have been big but not the HEAVY METAL LEVIATHAN they are today. On this album we get our fist glimpse of one of the elements that made Maiden so good, Steve Harris's bass playing. Steve Harris shows the world how basslines should be, i.e. an instrument of equal importance to the guitar rather than a mere shadowing of whatever the guitarist is playing. Steve Harris is one of the best bess players of all time, in the bass playing elite along with Joey DeMaio of Manowar, Stu Hamm and Billy Sheehan. This is a very good album and deserves a place in any metal warrior's CD collection, but don't even try to compare it to Number of the Beast.
