(Average Rating: 7.30 out of 10)

Maiden's most underrated album.

Since, it's release in 1992, "Fear Of The Dark" has received mixed reactions. There are some people who will tell you that it is a good, solid record, and others who will tell you that this album is only mediocre. Unfortunatley, this album is unfairly judged because many people still hadn't adjusted to the departure of Adrian Smith, and the arrival of new guitarist Janick Gers. Janick is a great guitarist and he sounds very good on this album. I don't understand why some Maiden fans don't like this record. There are some great songs on here. Of the four Maiden albums that Janick played on, and Adrian didn't, this is without a doubt the best one.

There are 5 classic Maiden songs on here that should be appriciated by every Maiden fan. The five songs are:
1)BE QUICK OR BE DEAD -- a heavy hitting, hard rocking, song that provides a great opening for the album. This song is not only the best song on the album, but is one of Maiden's best songs ever in my opinion.
2)FROM HERE TO ETERNITY--Another heavy song that should not be forgotten. This song is actually rumored to be the fourth part of the 'Charlotte the Harlot' series. Judge for yourself on that one, but you will agree that this song rocks.
3)AFRAID TO SHOOT STRANGERS--A Steve Harris song that is considered by Steve himself to be one of his strongest songs he ever wrote. This one starts off really soft before kicking in to the familiar high energy Maiden sound.
4)WASTING LOVE-- Sort of a Maiden 'power ballad.' This song sounds different from anything Maiden had done up till that point, but it turned out great.
5)FEAR OF THE DARK--For those of you that haven't heard this album, if you have been to a Maiden concert in the last eight or nine years, you have probably heard this song. This is a great song to play live, and the reason is it's catchy melody at the beginning, and then the fast and heavy verse that explodes out of nowhere. Listen to the beginning and I'm sure you'll recognize it.

There are seven remaining tracks on the album that don't quite stand up when compared to the other five, but rock nonetheless. Listen to the catchiness of the choruses on songs like 'Chains Of Misery' and 'Weekend Warrior' and the intro to 'Judas Be My Guide' and it's hard to argue that these aren't very good songs. They may not be the album's highlights, but they are far from album filler. --This text refers to the Audio CD edition
