Maiden's ninenth and last album with Dickinson(till Brave New World)Fear of the Dark is miles away from No Prayer For the Dying, which was actually pretty cool album.Be Quick or Be Dead- Great opener and their first single from this album. It' s the heaviest track on this album and also one of the better tracks. Bruce's raspy singing don't bother mein this one.5/5 From Here to Eternity-The second singlecut is also heavy one. I can't see why someone dislike this, 'cause it's again strong track.4.5/5 Afraid to Shoot Strangers- An epic about Gulf War.First soft, then hard, then totally berserking and soft again.Excellent song, but it' s little better when it's played live.5/5 Fear is the Key- Little disapointment after three stong tracks.Guitars are little creepy and lyrics are little repetive and funny, even though it tells about AIDS.Guitar solos aren' t amazing at all.But it ain't unlistenable, it's average. 3/5 Childhood's End- This is surprisingly excellent song.Everything is under control. It contains superb lyrics, even tough they sounds simple.5/5 Wasting Love- This one has got great music, but there's one thing that I don' t like so much, and that is the verse "dream on brothers...dream on sisters".But chorus is excellent.4/5 The Fugitive- Intro is so great, that you'll think that this great song.Well, it is.But the mood somehow lacks in the chorus. But it's strong song and one of the better songs on this album.4.5/5 Chains of Misery-Here it starts a little downhill. It' s not as bad as The Apparition or Fear is the Key, But it misses something, and I don't exactly know what.Guitar solos are the highlight on this song and chorus is good, altought it's little repetive.3.5/5 The Apparition- I think Harris will always shame this song. Lyrics are at least good and so is the middle part, but incredibly boring, surprisingly simple and amazingly stupid music ruins it all.Even deaf men suffers this song. One of Maiden's most forgetable and the worst song.1/5 Judas be my Guide- after hard earaches(headaches and heartaches)comes the saviour of the last half, Judas be my Guide. It's short, energetic, good, better, best.Everything under control and lyrics are...I can't figure any word...5/5 Weekend Warrior- again a little drop, but this ain't so bad.Music is surprisingly great, but lyrics are little cheesy.3/5 Fear of the Dark- Hard to say anything bad. It's a legend, but I prefer live versions(best yet is on Rock in Rio).5/5 So why 4 stars?Well, without The apparition this could be better.Of course you can skip it so it doesn't hurt this album. And I think that on this record I can't hate Janick Gers, cause I regocnize him only on solos. But buy it, cause it has some classic songs.
