This is the fastest I've seen a new Maiden album hit the discount section. Steve and c/o show a complete lack of effort, making DoD a horrible descent into self parody. Prepare yourself for lots of lame bass intros, (an idea used repeatedly by Maiden since the early ninties), musical phrases borrowed from Bnw and X factor and a terrible production. The title track is laughable and so wretched musically and lyrically that I told myself, "they must be joking" when I heard their attempt at a Blackmore's Night style "dance around the campfire" part which sounds completely gay. Ready yourself to be "entertained" by choruses where once again they insist on repeating long and awkward lines ad nauseam. Example: Montsegur which contains the memorable line:At the gates! And the walls! Of Montseguuuur!!! Blood on the stones of the citadel! On Paschendale they try to make a plain, unimaginative song sound powerful by playing cheap orchestral style keyboard. The only song worth listening to without pressing the stop button on your cd player half way through is Journeyman, although this too is weak by Maiden standards. I have noticed that this is the very first Maiden album to be available on discount around here, so I know I'm not the only one. I seen the same opinion online from hundred's of diehard Maiden fans, although you can also find sheep who will accept anything Maiden releases. So save your money and avoid this album. I have never felt this moved to write a online review before, so you will understand that I mean very much every word I say. As a huge Maiden fan let me tell you that I passionately believe this album sucks in a big way. There is no hope. Buy everything Maiden has released, even Virtual XI. But not this one. Don't you do it.
