Okay, it took me all these days to write this review despite the fact that I bought the album the day it was released. Yes!! I'm your perfect avid Maiden fan!!
Iron Maiden, as a band have come a long way now. They have always tried to expand their music-never scared to experiment and invent new forms of what they do best-create beautiful music!!
When Bruce came back to Maiden and released "Brave New World" within such a short span of time, I was overwhelmed. In my humble opinion, "Brave New World" is the best Iron Maiden album ever. It was beautiful, it was new stuff-the kind Maiden had never released. Well, to be honest, Brave New World continues the legacy of albums like "The X Factor" (I really don't know why it's not popular. It is such a great album and Blaze Bailey is a good singer), but with a major improvement with Bruce on the vocals.
This time, considering how Iron Maiden had so much time to write new music, I expected a brilliant new album-something comparable to "Brave New World."
However, I find that this album is almost like its predecessor-almost. Its not a killer like "Brave New World" was but is one of the good Iron Maiden albums and one of the best Heavy Metal albums ever made.
The songs are beautiful (check out the intro on "No More Lies". I bet it's one of the best examples of excellent guitar-work). All of them heavy and melodious. If you like the NWOBHM genre (of which Iron Maiden were one of the pioneers), you will love this album!!
What's bad is the production. It is a heavily compressed album which almost kills the music by distorting it brutally. I mean, you can hardly hear Nicko's excellent drum-playing. Maybe the record companies want us to get used to bad-sounding CDs so that they can forcibly push SACDs and DVD-Audio discs on us. This is bad, but there is nothing we cando about it.
Overall, this is an excellent album. A must-have for any Iron Maiden Fan.
Up The Irons!!
