Dance of Death is a hit and miss affair. From any other band it would be a good record, but it's IRON MAIDEN, and thus it fails to be as strong as their last studio record Brave New World. Of course it is only 5 years away from Vitual XI, by far the worst record they will ever make, so you can't judge them too harshly - at least they're trying. For the most part. Wildest Dreams is simply a horrible, dreadful song. As are Journeyman and Montesegur. Some songs come off better, but not great. No More Lies is very very good - except for the chorus which is generic and repetetive. Also New Frontier is Iron Maiden "Phoning it in", sounding much like Road to Hell from Bruce Dickinson's Accident Of Birth album. Of course Rainmaker, Face in the Sand, Dance of Death and Paschendale are all classic, brilliant and interesting Maiden songs which compare to their best albums - Brave New World, Seventh Son, Piece of Mind, and Number of the Beast. Hopefully they won't waste too much time on yet ANOTHER live album and we'll hear what's next.
