Iron Maiden is one of the most influential Metal bands ever. The best of the beast is a good sampler of the Maiden sound. It have most of the key tracks, but the single disc version lacks some of them. For those who need a more complete overview of Maiden's carrer, and those who are good fans of the band, they should buy the 2 CD set, specially the one with the big booklet. The single disc works great for the casual fan, but any of the early albums work good as a starting point. Maiden's songs work better in the original albums, specially the ones from "Seventh son of a seventh son" and "The Number of the beast", but a greatest hits collection is possible, since the badn has a huge fan base and had good commercial success worldwide.
