In Flames has been one of the most innovative and refreshing bands in the last decade or so. Along with other bands like At The Gates, In Flames has helped establish 'melodic death metal' as a sub-genre to be reckoned with. Adding a kind of class and style that makes the death metal genre truly compete with all others in terms of genuine creativity and a deep understanding of music, In Flames assisted in paving the way for a 'new' kind of metal that will not back down and will not be taken for granted."Whoracle" demonstrates this trailblazing mentality in how it utilizes elements of both great, intelligent songwriting (for both the lyrics & the music) and ferocious intensity. Whether it's the more extreme songs like 'Episode 666' or more emotive, thoughtful pieces like the title track, "Whoracle" has managed to maintain In Flames' dominance of melodic death metal and inspire bands and audiences alike as to how heavy music honestly ought to be done. The production value on this disc is excellent, and whether it's the bass, vocals, drums or guitars, all instruments stand out and meld together to form a truly incredible sound. I highly suggest this disc to anyone who is a fan of really heavy music, as well as those interested in seeing just how a band isn't afraid to incorporate a number of musical elements into their sound.
