Whatever you do - don't to into this album expecting wonderful, melodic death metal like Children of Bodom. The music is VERY much like what you hear on the radio from Linkin Park or more like Mudvayne, Limp Bizkit, or Korn style. If you like keyboards and true grunts or growls, stop reading and go buy Mirror of Madness. Probably the only reason that In Flames can be found on amazon through bands like Children of Bodom is the lyrics. Songs on Reroute are VERY short and ...I hate to use the word... "catchy". This is how the music is written. Its more along the lines of very hard rock than death metal at all. Thrash metal is closer to death metal than this. In Flames is a phenomenal band given that this is the music that they play. If they are in the same category as Children of Bodom, or even Dark Tranquility's category of metal, then they'd get torn apart. I don't know what it is that makes this band so good. A few of the songs can catch my attention, but that's not enough to say that this is a great album. Nearly every song could qualify as a "hit" and get on the radio for its own reason, which would make this the best album of all time to some people - I understand that. But, with the music I'm used to (Dimmu Borgir, Highlord, Stratovarius, Rhapsody, Samael, Everon - A LOT), "hit"s don't cut it. A song must sound good on an album. There are some death growls on this album, which does make this interesting, considering that often times, it sounds as if a radio voice is singing at the same time as a growler, similar to Norther's vocalist. I really don't think that this is that bad of an album. I'm just giving you a heads-up if you're normally into black metal or double-bass bands. If you don't know what I mean by either of those 2 terms, then this album DEFINETELY is for you!!! Also, now that I think about it, In Flames is probably a good intro to European metal, since they tend to play radio-style. If this is the way you want to go, then I would also recommend Everon - a rare band who writes sad lyrics about losing a loved one and things of that sort. This is more like Arch Enemy than any other "European melodic death metal" band I can think of. One thing another reviewer says that I will have to agree with is that you can listen to the whole album (about 53:00) and not get bored. When you get the time, go read some of my other reviews and say if they were helpful to you or not.
