While it's impossible to open a serious heavy metal magazine or web site without encountering some over-wrought death metal fan proclaiming the sell-out of Swedish metal act, In Flames, such sentiment could not be more wrong-headed. Clayman is a masterpiece, blending moments of delicate beauty with In Flames' usual brutal aggression. Anders Friden's vocals are leaps and bounds ahead of his earlier work on "The Jester Race" and "Whoracle" and the guitar work of Stromblad and Gelotte is top notch with crunching chords as well as powerful, wailing leads. This album is not to be missed by any metal fan, or music fan, for that mater.
